We had some issues with coming up with a clear topic. We thought of a broad collection of topics and routes to work in.
The ideas consisted of:
- Cloning animals
- Organic food-accessibility
- Eating habits-vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian
- Shoprite vs. Whole Foods (Organic offerings)
I commented on Michael's Blog saying:
"Question for interview: How would your food. Differ from Shoprite? It may be obvious but getting her opinion on it might be interesting. I really like this idea. I think we could uncover some stuff. I have a local Italian market opening up near me and an Amish farmers market 5 minutes from my house. Great work."
(Has been edited to get rid of my spelling errors because I used my phone to write the comment.)
Going off of the farmers market area of food, I have came up with some research questions.
- What are the benefits of shopping at a farmers market rather than the local supermarket?
- Would establishing a farmers market have an effect on the local supermarket?
- How are customers attracted to the farmers market (i.e. prices, food, quality) And who are these customers shopping at the market?
For interview questions, I wasn't sure who we could interview. In Michael's Blog, he mentioned that his father was familiar with the woman who was starting the market and we could get a possible interview. Also, we could interview customers in addition to our oral history project.
Questions for interview of Sara Kirby:
- What was your main purpose/motivation for opening the local farmers market?
- Will the local supermarket have any effect on your business?
- Does it worry you at all knowing customers also shop at corporations such as Shoprite, Walmart, or Whole Foods?
- What benefits does your food offer that the big businesses do not?
- What do you hope to accomplish by opening this market?
- What are your concerns for your customers?
When talking about ways to present the project, we said that we could do a documentary style. Darren, Michael, and I have Flip video cameras. We could record the footage with those and then Michael could do the editing.
Although we have plenty of ideas, we still need to agree on a topic and narrow it down. We are making progress.
